Tuesday in "other" Words

"A family without a commitment to the God of the Bible has no hope of stemming the tide of cultural onslaught. If we mix a little biblical truth, a little secular physchology, a little romance novel idology, and a little eastern mysticism, we will get a deadly mixture of lies. Unfortunately, this is what many Christian families do . . . If we are to experience multigeneraltional faithfulness we must come to a place where we throw off the shackles of our culture and live in the fullness that is found only in Christ. We must be people who live the Word in our homes."

~By Voddie T. Baucham, Jr~

Looking back on the last 13 years of homeschooling I can and sadly admit I have not always been the best example for my children. Being home with them 24/7 these kids have gotten to know their momma. The good, the bad, and not so pretty. Honestly, they have seen me at my worst and best! How could they not!

Although, I just shared I have not always been the best example for them, in a contradicting way... I have been. When my kids have witnessed me at my worst, they also witnessed me humble myself and apologize if need be. They see me and witness my struggles yes,but also the victories!!

Romans 3:23-24 says this...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

When we fail and when we succed its important theat we point to the Cross. Jesus... He is the one we learn to lean on, Jesus is the one that sets captaives free! He is the one that can offer peace to my children in this crazy mixed up workd, but I have to live it, not just preach it.

One of those perks of homeschooling I have learned is that daily, I have an opportunity to live my faith in front of my kids. Perfect or not....I have opportunity's to show Gods love and mercies. We can be mindful of the important things, and make sure the value of becomeing children of God is not becoming perfect people, but willing. Every day is a new day! *Ü*

What an opportunity we have!

Deuteronomy 4:9

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings-what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:10-12)

This is the verse I thought of when I was reading your blog. Mentoring our children requires that they know us warts and all.

What a great post. I think when our children see us make mistakes or how we deal with adversity, it makes it easier for them to approach us when they have goofed up because they know we are not perfect either.
btw, did you ever receive the book I sent?
Your secret sister.

This is a great response to this quote because we will all fail (regularly) to be perfect examples for our kids, but we can keep turning our kids back to Jesus and His amazing grace.

Lisa you are SOOOOOOOOO right!
Being at home 24/7 does bring out the good, the bad, and the downright UGLY in me...and they get to witness it daily...I LOVE that we can 'talk and deal' with those things when they happen and not just occasionally.....those are the life lessons that they get to see daily!!

I really LOVED this...
You put into words my heart!!
thanks Lisa!!
hugs,

A wonderful post. Yes, we are all going to fail- our kids see that, but just as important is that they see us repent, forgive and take responsibility. This is the most important part of failure that they need to learn. I've told my kids often---"the crime isn't that you made a mistake, the crime is not giving it to God and letting it become who you are."

Love your perspective of living out your imperfect faith before your kids. I'm sure they see the best in you like God does.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I do a demonstration for homeschool kids about faith using a rock tumbler. Kids and parents love it. I wish you lived closer, I'd love to share with yours.

Great post, Lisa!

You're right. Our kids know us inside and out, don't they?

I like what you said about not becoming perfect people, but to be *willing*.

And, thank the Lord, His mercies are new every morning!
