A reminder of sorts....

I wrote this post last year on November 27th for Tuesday in other words. I wanted to share it again... this first day of December.

Jesus is the reason for the season. *Ü*

One reason we are so harried and hurried is that we make yesterday and tomorrow our business, when all that legitimately concerns us is today. If we really have too much to do, there are some items on the agenda which God did not put there. Let us submit the list to Him and ask Him to indicate which items we must delete.
There is always time to do the will of God. If we are too busy to do that, we are too busy."~ Elisabeth Elliott ~

I love Elisabeth Elliott! I love this quote! It is so true! Especially this time of year! Party's for work, family and church gatherings, friends.... buying and making gifts, baking, creating.... you name it we as woman try to do it all, thinking we have the time.... right?

I think it is during this season we can sometimes loose focus on our daily lives and look to tomorrow. Stress can soon follow. Its hard to stay focussed on here and now..... I know this all to well! :) When I read the quote for this week this scripture also came to mind.

Luke 10:38-44 (NASB)

Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord's feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me." 41But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

Is this not fitting? As we move into the month of December and begin to feel the pull of perfectionism..... looking to what still needs to be done.... Let us remember Christ and take the time to sit at His feet. I know this is a cliche but, Jesus is the reason for the season! *Ü*

I hope you have a "Mary" Christmas through this holdiay season!!

Proverbs study for the family

A few weeks ago, maybe more... I bought a few books from Simply Charlotte Masons website. One of the books I bought was called Wisdom for Life

We begin this study tomorrow (Dec 1st), and it will take us 8 months to complete it. We will read a proverb every day and look for verses that give wisdom about a specific topic. For December the first topic I chose for us is My Relationship with God and His Word .

This will include:

  1. What God is Like
  2. What God does
  3. What His word can do
  4. How you should respond to His word
  5. The benefits of obeying God and His word.

I may add more things to look for as we go through, but for now we will keep it as is... Keeping it simple *Ü*

As we find verses that correspond with our monthly topic, we will write them in our notebooks along with the reference. We will then summarize what we have learned at the end of the month.

You can find out more about this book at Simply Charlotte Masons Website.

The books is best used for grades 7-12 or in my case 7Th grade- mom.

Whats up buttercup!?

How is everyone! All 10 of you who read here! LOL I took an unplanned hiatus to clean and declutter... we were going to put our home up for sale and then 2 weeks later decided against it! So here I am...

I missed checking in to all my favorite blogs! You ladies are so much fun and its great to get glimpses into your lives. I look forward to getting caught up! My google reader says I have almost 400 unread posts from my favorite peeps... y'all been busy!! So.. I will be busy reading for a bit!

So happy about the blog awards!! My bloggy friend Darcy won for funniest homeschool blog and Jessica won best blog design!! congratulations!! I also voted for my friend Jennefer for best homeschool mom... she really is... Other than Darcy and Jessica Im not sure of all the outcome.... but I have a funny... I think I was the first one to vote!! I was at the home school blog awards site right at 9 o'clock Pacific time and the poll was open!! I do believe I was numero uno while voting *Ü* I felt special... and hope it wasn't cheating... because it was still the 9th here... but it was the 10th on the East Coast!! *Ü*

Besides boring cleaning and work... school has been going pretty good! RyLee is doing good in Latin. She received a 100 on her last exam! We are in the end of Chapter 5. I'm thinking they will break at or just after chapter 6 maybe 7?? I'm not sure when they will take a break and each chapter is covered in 2 weeks so we shall see.

Spanish is going well. I'm so glad the girls have each other to practice speaking and translating! What a blessing for them. I have lost all interest in learning but do try to practice some vocabulary with them.

On Friday I was able to catch up with an old friend.. shes not old,*Ü* but we have not really "seen" each other or visited for almost 5 years... I think that's about right... Well we met up last week at a local home school gathering... we were both asked (along with 4 others) to sit on a panel and answer home school related questions.... during the meeting we realized our daughters are in the same Spanish class! LOL I guess Im not that sharp *Ü* So she suggested we have coffee while the girls are in class... yaa!! Class is only an hour... but it was time well spent. I walked away encouraged and like I connected with an old friend... I cant wait for the next Spanish class!!

Math has been going well and we should be finished with Washington State History before January. Once the weather warms this spring we will take some field trips. Mt St Helen's is one and then East of the Mt. ( I hope) to visit a friend for a few days...

Logic is going good and will also be done before Jan. Christian has been working through IEW C and doing well. I love IEW. School feels a little on the light side... but its all good to me! My motto this year is keep it simple sweetie... and so far I am.

Jan we will begin TOG year 3 unit 3. I'm awaiting its arrival. *Ü* I cant wait to plan. I began using Simply Charlotte Masons planning book and dvd but had gaps because I don't have unit 3 yet. :( So I lent it to a friend while I'm waiting for unit 3 to arrive...

I am changing our school calendar to start in Jan... it just makes more sense. This might be Christians last year "home schooling" so I want to transition now since next year Ry will be in 8th grade... that way we are all set for High School... I chose semester type subjects ( WA history, Logic etc) So we could begin Jan with regular studies, including TOG....

Do you like the few pictures here?? They were taken by Christian. She has some talent in this area... she takes good pictures! The kids ( all 3 of mine) went to Seattle on Saturday with youth group for the annual PB and J sandwiches/sock and blanket mission. They go and hand out the goods while visiting, sharing and being a friend to the homeless in Seattle. It was RyLees first time and she would like to do it again. Its good for them to see how others live, it keeps the heart tender.

Here are a few more photos Christian took while in Seattle. I love em. She took over 300, but these have no faces. *Ü* Its a good hobby for her.

Hope this post finds you all well!! Happy almost Thanksgiving!!

I hope and pray you will take some time to watch this video. Its fantastic! Even if you have already voted... Today I sent in my ballot... so I have already.... but... I do believe this will give you food for thought...

I never planned on posting anything about politics, especially this election season, but this... after watching it.... I felt led to do so. It was engaging and very interesting. Below is a video recording of Bob McEwin former United States Congressman of Ohio.

What Your Taste in Art Says About You

Your result for What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test...

Balanced, Secure, and Realistic.

Impressionism is a movement in French painting, sometimes called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects. Impressionist paintings are balanced, use colored shadows, use pure color, broken brushstrokes, thick paint, and scenes from everyday life or nature.

People that like Impressionist paintings may not alway be what is deemed socially acceptable. They tend to move on their own path without always worrying that it may be offensive to others. They value friendships but because they also value honesty tend to have a few really good friends. They do not, however, like people that are rude and do not appreciate the ideas of others. They are secure enough in themselves that they can listen to the ideas of other people without it affecting their own final decisions. The world for them is not black and white but more in shades of grey and muted colors. They like things to be aestically pleasing, not stark and sharp. There are many ways to view things, and the impresssionist personality views the world from many different aspects. They enjoy life and try to keep a realistic viewpoint of things, but are not very open to new experiences. If they are content in their live they will be more than likely pleased to keep things just the way they are.

Clumsy?? Why yes I am...

Do you ever feel that way? As a Christian, when I stumble... I tend to be my own worst enemy. I remembered a song Chris Rice made some time ago,its called Clumsy. I had the sweet pleasure of seeing him live at a local church about... I dunno 3 years ago?? Gosh its sad I cant remember... but.. I remembered this song today... I love it...

I don't care for the pictures to much... they are not inappropriate, but its not him live, although the song is... and its great. Listen, its a good one and wont take much time.
