Friendship Bread

I love this bread! Its also known as Amish bread. It is my all time favorite bread to make in the fall and winter months. It takes a little bit of time... but its always worth the wait! I'm not sure who's recipe this is, so I cant give them credit.... but we all love it!

First things first:

Do not use metal bowls, or spoons.
Do not refrigerate.
If air gets into the bag, let it out.
It is normal for batter to thicken and ferment.

Directions:

1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Place all 3 ingredients into zip lock plastic bag. Gallon size is good. Squeeze the bad (make sure its closed) and mix the 3 ingredients good. then let it sit. No touchy.

Day 2-5 Squeeze the bag several times.

Day 6 Add to bag; 1 cup each flour, milk and sugar. Squeeze to mix.

Day 7- 9 Squeeze bag several times.

Day 10 Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Stir. Take out 3 cups and place 1 cup each into three separate plastic zip lock baggies. Give one cup and a copy of this recipe to three friends. To the balance (a little over one cup) of the batter, add the following ingredients and mix well.

1 cup oil
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp Baking soda
3 eggs
1 large box of vanilla instant pudding
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon.

Preheat oven to 325. Grease 2 loaf pans well or you can use 1 bunt pan and sprinkle the bottom of what ever you use with Cinnamon and sugar before pouring the batter in. Pour in batter in and bake for 1 hour or until done and enjoy!

You can also keep the extre starters and just make extra loves and give them as gifts!

We LOVE Friendship bread. I am going to start some tomorrow...thank you! You can freeze the one cup starters (if you run out of friends who want them) and then just bake them up when you want some. I don't know that you'd be able to use it as a new starter, but it bakes up just the same: DELICIOUS!

This is a great idea. I've gotten bags before, but never made a starter. Fun! Thanks for posting this recipe. :)
