A bit More Lewis and Clark

Sometime this last summer, I read an email about a website (I'm not sure who i got it from) that had traveling trunks you could rent and view during the year. The trunks are filled with items from that event in history and a great teachers guide to explain and give background to each item!

I rented the Lewis and Clark trunk and was able to keep it for 3 weeks. Good thing because I didn't actually get to it till our time was almost up! This fit in perfect with our Lewis and Clark study with Tapestry of grace year 3. Below are pictures of what was in the trunk and rylees lap book. I didnt include the entire lapbook, but a good bit of it. The folds were placed on card stock and placed in her TOG binder under the correct week in Tapestry of Grace.

This was a cd we listened to one afternoon. It has music of what songs passably sung by some on the expedition. At least popular at that time. It had a bit of a Celtic sound to it.

Here is Ry sporting a bear claw... and no I don't mean a doughnut! *Ü*

Here is a photo of Sergeant Patrick Glass (1771–1870. He was the oldest ( lived the longest) of anyone from the expedition.

The guide in the trunk was written like he wrote the guide and was sharing the content of this old trunk with his grandchildren. It was pretty cool!

Here Christian is pulling viewing canisters of things that Lewis and Clark would have saved and sent back to Thomas Jefferson. From vegetation clippings to rattle snake rattles, grain....

RyLee holding a moccasin.

Buffalo pelt

Beaver pelt

I cant remember what this was exactly, but it was tanned so you could make a moccasin or clothing.

This was a peace medallion that Lewis and Clark would have given the Indians along the trip. Rylee is holding one side.

Christian holds and shows the other side.

RyLee made a picture. It was to represent what her medallion would look like. Can you tell she loves Neopets?

RyLee used Live and Learns: The Corps of Discovery: The Lewis & Clark Expedition. Here are a few of RyLees Lapboook folds.

wow we also did this trip this summer. I grew up in Washington and every year we went to seaside for our two week camp at Fort Stevens. I wanted my children to experience it. We now live in CA. so while we were home visiting we made the trip to the coast. It was so much fun. we only had a half of a day there but it was so fun. I am also doing TOG but half pace so we wont reach year three for a little while but I will be sure to go again.
